Barry Ball (DVM Univ of Georgia, 1981; Residency Univ of Florida, 1984; PhD Cornell, 1987; Diplomate ACT, 1987) is currently Professor and Hughes Chair in Equine Reproduction at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California-Davis. His current research emphasis is directed toward sperm physiology and preservation in the stallion as well as reproductive endocrinology of the mare.

Amanda De Mestre is currently in a permanent academic position at the Royal Veterinary College, London as a Senior Lecturer in Reproductive Immunology. She leads an active research group (the largest in the field in the UK) that addresses both basic science and clinical questions primarily focused around the physiology and pathologies of early equine pregnancy. She is involved in training PhD students (veterinarians and basic scientists), postdoctoral fellows and undergraduate students. Their research has been presented in oral sessions at all the leading international reproduction meetings in 2013, including Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR), Society for Reproduction and Fertility (SRF), Fertility 2013, British Endocrine Society Annual Meeting as well as ISER 2014. Amanda has a number of publications in the field and several under review and in preparation. Their work is currently funded by The Wellcome Trust, Horserace Betting Levy Board/Thoroughbred Breeders Association, Morris Animal Foundation and Petplan Chariable Trust. They have also recently received funding to investigate the relevance of their findings in the horse to human pregnancy. Amanda is an Editorial Board member of the journal Trophoblast Research. Prior to Amanda’s research career, she graduated with BVSc from the University of Sydney and worked as a veterinary surgeon in equine specialist practice, including positions at Scone Veterinary Hospital, Australia and Newmarket Equine Hospital, UK. Although she no longer practice herself, she collaborates closely with a number of equine veterinarians working in specialist reproduction practices across the UK, including Rossdales and Partners and Newmarket Equine Hospital, as well as Dr Karen Worfsdorf, Kentucky, USA.

Following an upbringing in South Yorkshire, David went to Cambridge University in 1980 to study Veterinary Medicine. It was here that his interest in all matters equine was stimulated. Following graduation in 1986, David practiced as a veterinary surgeon in a mixed agricultural practice in rural Hertfordshire for two years, dealing with cattle, sheep, horses, dogs and cats. He then moved to Malton, North Yorkshire where he worked mainly with racehorses. In 1989, he moved to Newmarket where he is now resident. David is the Managing Partner in Newmarket Equine Hospital a large, 30 vet practice dealing with Thoroughbred racehorses and breeding stock. He is also involved in the Tattersalls sales where he acts as veterinary advisor to the sales company and he attends as official veterinary surgeon at Newmarket Racecourse. In 1999 he was elected to the Council of the British Equine Veterinary Association and was President in 2008. He holds the post graduate RCVS Certificates in Equine Practice and Equine Stud Medicine and for several years was Chief Examiner for the RCVS Certificate in Equine Stud Medicine. He also acts as Veterinary Advisor to the Racehorse Owners’ Association and is a member of the BHA Veterinary Committee. David has lectured regularly at British Equine Veterinary Association courses for veterinary surgeons and also at the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Stud Medicine Course each year. He is a lecturer at The National Stud Students Course and runs an annual course for veterinary surgeons in Newmarket Equine Hospital. He has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Cambridge Veterinary School Trust for several years. The aim of the Trust is to raise funds for the training and education of veterinary students. He is married with four children and his leisure activities include horse riding and gardening. David is Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the next ISER meeting being held in Cambridge, UK in July 2018.

Her career focus has been stallion physiology and behavior.

Angus McKinnon, Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital, Australia. Angus graduated with a BVSc in 1978 and then completed a post graduate diploma and MSc at the University of Guelph, Canada. He was an associate professor at Colorado StateUniversity from 1982 - 1988 and is now a senior research fellow at Monash University and an academic associate at the University of Melbourne. He is a founding partner of Goulburn Valley Equine hospital and also manages the Australasian branch of Select Breeders (stallion semen freezing). He has many awards and publications in equine research. His special interest areas are AI, hormones of reproduction, embryo transfer and semen freezing.

Lee Morris' (BVSc University of Sydney 1992; Doctorate of Veterinary Science University of Guelph 1998; Diplomate ACT 1997; Registered Specialist in Veterinary Reproduction in Australasia 2005) post-doctorate work in low dose insemination was based at The Equine Fertility Unit, UK. Lee is also the Australasian consultant to XY Inc. (USA) for research into sex-preselection of stallion sperm. Lee is now based at EquiBreed NZ Ltd, a centre for advanced reproduction in horses in New Zealand. Her special interests are insemination techniques, the fertility of epididymal sperm and embryo technologies in horses and dogs.

Dale Paccamonti (DVM Michigan State University 1981; MS University of Florida 1988; Diplomate American College of Theriogenologists 1987) is currently Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, at the Louisiana State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Harald Sieme (DVM 1988, Dr.med.vet. 1989, Dr.habil. 2004) worked as a veterinarian at National Stud Lower Saxony, Celle; Germany (1991-2006) and is a Professor of Equine Reproductive Medicine at University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany. Tom Stout (BA 1990, VetMB 1993, PhD 1998: all Cambridge) is a Professor of Equine Medicine and Reproduction at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. He is a Diplomat of the European College of Animal Reproduction and a Royal Dutch Veterinary College recognised specialist in Equine Reproduction. Tom is involved in research, teaching and providing a clinical service. His research interests lie principally in assisted reproductive technology, early embryonic development and the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy.

Ed Squires (BS 1969 WVa; MS 1971 WVa; PhD 1974 UWis; Hon Dipl ACT 1999) is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Ed is involved in teaching, research and service activities. Primary areas of research are assessing sperm damage after cooling or freezing; embryo transfer; sexed semen and development of assisted reproductive techniques such as oocyte & GIFT transfer, IVF/ICSI.

Dickson Varner graduated from the University of Missouri in 1978. He completed an internship at Castleton Farm, Lexington, Kentucky, and then continued as an assistant resident veterinarian at that location for an additional two years. He then relocated to New Bolton Center to complete a residency in Theriogenology, then served as a Lecturer in Large Animal Reproduction, as well as Director of the Hoffman Center for Reproductive Studies and Director of the Endometrial Biopsy Service. Dickson has been on the faculty at Texas A&M University since 1986, where he is presently Professor of Theriogenology and Pin Oak Stud Chair of Stallion Reproductive Studies. He is author or coauthor of over 500 manuscripts, research abstracts, and textbook chapters relating to horse reproduction, and has authored/co-authored textbooks entitled Diseases and Management of Breeding Stallions, and “Manual on Equine Reproduction.” He is also co-editor of the newly released edition of Equine Reproduction.” He is a past president of the American College of Theriogenologists, and was presented with the Theriogenologist of the Year award from this College in 2002. He has been on the Board of Directors of the AAEP and presented the Milne Lecture at the Annual Convention of the AAEP in 2007.

Walter Zent graduated from Cornell University in 1963. He did an internship at Purdue University from 1963 to 1964 and then went to the University of Kentucky Veterinary Science Department from 1964 to 1965. Walter then joined the equine practice Hagyard-Davidson-McGee, where he remains. His practice interest is theriogenology, primarily infertility in the mare.
