Travel Grants

The primary purpose of the travel grants is to give promising students or post-docs with limited financial resources the opportunity to participate in upcoming ISER meetings. Staff/teachers/researchers of universities/institutions from countries with underdeveloped economy and low salaries are also eligible for travel grants. Profit of the invested capital of the trust is used for the travel grants. The IERSC appoints the travel grant committee (TGC) at the Midway Meeting, which consists of the Chairman and two additional members. The members of the TGC represent different geographical regions.

Proposed steps to be followed in the allocation of travel grants:

  1. The Trust informs the Chairman of the TGC about the sum of money available 6 months before the meeting. US dollars will be used as the currency.
  2. A Travel grant application form will be sent to you when your abstract has been accepted. This form gives all necessary information needed for the TGC to make decisions about the allocation of the grants (see attached form).
  3. The Secretariat sends the applications to the Chairman of the TGC as soon as the abstracts have been accepted. The Chairman makes a preliminary proposal, based on an Excel table with all necessary information, and distributes it to the other two members of TGC. Discussions are carried out via e-mails or via Skype/Messenger. All TGC members participate in the final decision making.
  4. As a rule, travel grants are given only to persons with accepted abstracts. However, a person with a submitted but rejected abstract can get a travel grant at the discretion of the TGC if he/she comes from a country that otherwise would not have any representation at all. The purpose of this exception is to spread knowledge about equine reproductive research to less developed countries where research is at its beginning.
  5. Primarily, recipients of travel grants are students and post-docs, but also staff/teachers/ researchers of universities/institutions from countries with underdeveloped economy and low salaries are eligible for travel grants, if the applications are well justified. Requests from professors or tenured scientists from Western Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand are therefore given low priority.
  6. If the sum of applications exceeds the sum allocated for grants, preferences will be given to candidates who have not received grants previously. As a rule, a person can get the grant for a maximum of two consecutive meetings.
  7. The cheapest available flights should be used. Persons coming from same countries should get approximately the same sum of money.
  8. There is an upper limit for a travel grant, defined for each symposium by the TGC.
  9. If the sum allocated for travel grants allows, the applicants are given the sum requested under the condition that the requirements mentioned above have been fulfilled. If needed, the TGC can also decide to lower the amount of money granted by a certain percentage. Final distribution of money is at the discretion of the TGC.
